MARTHA J - Jazz singer

Bio

In 1986 I began performing in clubs in my hometown, Milan (Italy).
In 1990 I took part in Sanremo Music Festival with a group called Proxima, with whom I released 2 CDs.

From 1999 on, I have been concentrating myself almost exclusively to jazz music, singing in jazz clubs, festivals and events in Northern Italy and abroad.

In 2008 I released 2 CDs dedicated to jazz standards: 'That's it!' e 'No one but you'.

in 2010 I released "Dance your way to heaven" with songs I wrote with panist Francesco Chebat.

In 2012 we release "Harlem Nocturne" a new CD with jazz standards.

1996 - 1998 The beginning

I started singing as a child and by the time I was 18 I was singing and performing in clubs in Milan and in Northern Italy.

I played guitar and sang songs by Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Carole King, Bob Dylan...

I liked also the Pentangle and the Beatles very much!

1988 - 1994 Proxima

In 1988 I joined the pop group Proxima. Andrea Majocchi on keyboards and Alberto Deponti on guitar.

In 1990 we took part in Sanremo Music Festival and in the following years we release 2 CDs (PDU/EMI e RTI Music).

We palyed in many television and radio shows, and made a lot of concerts all around Italy and abroad. I remember with special pleasure our concerts in Toronto, Canada, in 1991.

1995 - 1998 Cloud Nine

In 1995 i found a group called Cloud Nine: new age and english folk music, electronic and acoustic sound.

We release a CD: "Tattoo my soul".

1999 Finally jazz!

In 1999 I turn to my true passion: jazz!

I have been singing in jazz clubs, festivals and events in Italy e and abroad. I worked with many musicians, such as Attilio Zanchi, Francesco Chebat, Roberto Piccolo, Stefano Bertoli, Giovanni Monteforte, Marco Bianchi, Paolo Alderighi, Vittorio Castelli, Massimo Caracca, Carol Sudhalter, Lorenzo Livraghi, Alberto Guareschi... and many others.
